Joseph Ford - L'Art du Fil

Delighted to share this stunning publication featuring images from the "knitted camouflage" collaborative project between Joseph Ford and creative knitter, Nina Dodd.

"L'ART DU FIL" is a sumptuous collection of colourful and richly textured textile art and is available in all good bookshops.

Huge thanks to Marie-Madeleine Massé and @editionsalternatives for featuring the work, and to @ninadoddknits for the amazing creative collaborations, as always 🍉 🧶 💚💛❤️

Chris Floyd - Glenfiddich / David Aiu Servan-Schreiber

CHRIS FLOYD recently worked with artist DAVID AIU SERVAN-SCHREIBER on a project for GLENFIDDICH.

David "does things with wood, extreme heat, paint and gold leaf that are out of this world", and in this instance created a stunning limited-edition artwork adorning the packaging of this opulent 26 year old whisky (which has been finished in rare French cognac casks).... #mmmmmmm!

Phil Fisk - Time Passing...

…or Phil just passing the time.

A left over prop skull was transformed by time lapse, and stylist Vic Twyman, over several days in lockdown.

Phil commented on the project that, “the edit started to border on horror but was eventually rested in somber reflection. I hope. And it was all achIeved in a garden shed… except the edit.”

The beautiful soundtrack was created by Phil’s mate Alan Fairnie.

Phil Fisk - BAFTA / Sandy Powell

PHIL shoots award-winning costume designer SANDY POWELL OBE for his series “FOR THE LOVE OF FILM” for BAFTA.
This beautiful atelier-style set was created by Vicky Twyman with input from Sandy, and features several bespoke 'toiles' or fitting prototypes, including two of her actual designs from the film THE FAVOURITE.
At BAFTA 2020 Sandy wore a calico template suit, got 100+ A-list stars to sign it, then raffled it off... raising enough money to protect Prospect Cottage, her mentor Derek Jarman's Dungeness home.

Joseph Ford - Coronavirus

Back in 2014 Joseph Ford created a project with the assistance of amazing knitter Nina Dodd.

They decided to focus on the idea of a CORONAVIRUS lurking in wait for a human encounter, so Nina and her friend Sue creating a giant knitted microbe for the purpose.

At the time, when Joseph showed people his work, most were unfamiliar with the concept but now his images feel horribly relevant…

Chris Floyd - Men's Health - PPE

CHRIS FLOYD shoots on location during lockdown for MEN’S HEALTH for a feature on 3 British manufacturers who have repurposed their production lines to create items of PPE for the NHS during the Covid 19 crisis.

COMMUNITY CLOTHING in Blackburn, Lancashire, who usually manufacture beautifully made items of affordable, sustainable and ethical men’s and women’s clothing turned their business towards making urgently needed NHS scrubs.

STAEGER CLEAR in Coventry switched from making things like shirt collar stiffeners and Easter egg cases to making a face visor of their own design.

INTERFLEX in Nottingham had also halted all their normal plastic packaging work and were producing disposable plastic aprons at a phenomenal rate.

A staggering and inspirational contribution from all 3 companies, especially as their undertakings were in the face of significant bureaucratic and logistical challenges. WE SALUTE YOU!

For inspiration, Chris took the 1950s photography of the great Maurice Broomfield, who so beautifully documented the last golden age of British manufacturing. “I’ve loved Broomfield’s work for a long time and this seemed like the obvious opportunity to pay tribute to it.”

Chris Floyd - Good Ordinary Claret for Berry Brothers

Since 2016, Berry Bros. & Rudd, London wine merchants founded in the 17th century, have commissioned a different artist each year to design the label for their much loved 'Good Ordinary Claret'. In 2019 Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard were commissioned to produce the label and they recreated a long forgotten Victorian invention - the multigraph - which, by clever arrangement of mirrors, allows people to be photographed in such a way as to render 5 versions of the sitter, all at different angles in the final image. Iain and Jane adapted the original invention by laster cutting the bottle's silhouette into the edges of the two mirrors that meet in the middle and slotting the bottle into the available hole. This clever trick and use of 21st century technology allowed for a final image with just one bottle but 5 wine glasses, the idea being that 'one bottle may nourish many glasses'. This photographed image then became the label for Berry Bros. & Rudd 2019 Good Ordinary Claret.
