Commission: Phil Fisk - Paula Rego for The Observer
Phil had the pleasure to photograph Paula Rego in her studio for The Observer recently. Paula was born in Portugal in 1935, studied painting at the Slade in 1952 with Lucian Freud as her tutor and began exhibiting in the 1960s alongside David Hockney and Frank Auerbach, Paula has always been fascinated by fairytales and much of her pastel work reflects cruel fables and folklore with women at the epicentre. She is one of our greatest living painters and her work is currently exhibiting in Paris at the Musée de l’Orangerie till mid January 2019. Go see!

Personal: Phil Fisk - Tradesmen
A colourful ongoing personal project by Phil Fisk inspired whilst building his new studio and office space. Working with Mark, a carpenter and builder (and a Goldsmiths Fine Art Graduate), Phil began to appreciate the aesthetic properties of his trade and the materials and tools Mark used whilst around the building. This grew into documenting all the tradespeople who came to work on the new studio. The textures and colours of their tools and materials dictated how Phil then composed the portraits.
