Chris Floyd - Zapata Ranch

CHRIS FLOYD recently spent several days shooting at the wildly beautiful ZAPATA RANCH near Alamosa, Colorado. A glorious world of “cowgirls, cowboys, horses, cattle, trucks, denim, stetsons, leather goods, steaks, mountain ranges and bison”.

There he met with Kate Matheson, who he used to work with in the early 2000s when she was a picture editor at Conde Nast magazines in London. About 15 years ago she gave it all up, and in her own words, “arrived at the ranch with a suitcase of clothes and a Le Creuset pot, I got my best friend Pepe and my dream truck not long after. I’ll be leaving with a husband, 7 horses, 3 dogs, two babies and a chicken if we can catch her and at least 2 novels worth of stories.”

Next month she is leaving Colorado to move to Montana with her family, where they are taking over the running of her husband’s family’s ranch. Kate is pictured in the last 3 images and you can hear her story on the Ranchlands podcast here.

Fabulous photos Chris! Such a beautiful insight into ranch life in the American midwest.

Phil Fisk shoots the amazing Chanel Contos for Australian Magazine.

In 2021 her online petition to make consent education mandatory in Australian schools attracted 45,000 signatures. One year later, education ministers from around the country unanimously agreed to the demand.

Her platform teachusconsent.com lobbies for and provides holistic consent and sexuality education in Australia and has inspired similar movements worldwide. Recognition of Chanel's efforts has come in the form of a BBC 100 Women nomination 2022, a Diana Award for Activism 2022, and a Young Australian of the Year 2023 nomination.

Phil Fisk - Top 30 Talent / Observer

Phil Fisk recently photographed some amazing creative and culinary talent for Observer Food Monthly’s “Food Favourites for 2023”…

Featured here are beautiful portraits of baker Helen Evans and knife-maker Holly Loftus.

Holly has a foundry in Deptford. Her knives are things of great beauty; inspired by the principles of heirloom design and completely hand made using ancient Japanese techniques with handles made from native timbers sourced from family run sawmills.

Helen has just opened her first bakery, (a one woman operation), Eric’s in East Dulwich, having previously worked at the much-celebrated bakery Flor in Borough Market. 🌾 🥖 🙌

Phil Fisk - Allotment Eccentrics / The Alchemist

Delighted to share the 3rd and final part of Phil Fisk's beautifully crafted, atmospheric and other-worldly 'Allotment Eccentrics' series, created in collaboration with super-talented stylist Vic Twyman.

Here Phil turns his lens on potting shed alchemist Pedro (who insists his English friends pronounce it “Peyo”).

His story is told below...

Peyo has always hankered for a simple life. Originally from the Basque region of Spain but with French ancestry he has always felt like a nomad and travelled the world after university, working in bars and restaurants, gradually losing any motivation to pursue the product design he had studied for. In 2008 he was knocked off his motor bike, sustaining severe concussion and a lengthy time in hospital. A generous insurance payment bought him a period of reflection and he applied for an allotment, initially to stretch out the money and start living off the land but its appeal grew like his plants and quickly enveloped him. These new cultivation skills and constant reading inspired him to investigate the world of herbal medicine and to start making his own remedies. His back and arms still ache but his natural medicines and gentle digging are working to alleviate it. He thinks of himself as an alchemist although has no desire to create gold, just a simple ambition to use the natural properties of minerals and herbs to create change in himself and those around him.

Joseph Ford - Canon

Working alongside the film crew, he captured stills of action photographer Teddy Morellec putting the camera through its paces, alongside speed flyers (/adrenaline junkies!) Ugo Gerola and Ambroise Serrano and mountain biker Louise Ferguson. 🙌 ⚡️

Kellie French - Sali Hughes / Guardian

Kellie’s work has focussed on beauty for the last few months, creating some stunning content for Sali Hughes’ iconic weekly beauty column in the Guardian.

The picture editors wanted her to devise a series of images with a modern, conceptual and humorous taken on beauty photography. The brief gave Kellie lots of freedom with her ideas and executions, and we absolutely love the results!

The images focus on a range of concepts… from L to R…

wavy hair / strong hair / saving money with a beauty subscription / glass highlighters / Christmas fragrances.

Huge thanks to all the Guardian team and to Sarah Cherry for the amazing hair & makeup. ❤️💥🔥
